The Biological activity of Chitosan.

Source: Dervied from crustacean exoskeletons.

Production: Produced form dried, crushed crustacean exoskeletons.

Target Pests: Powdery Mildews (various species) and Botrytis species. "Clandosan" has activity against nematodes.

Target Crops: Fruit, such as grapes, strawberries, cherris and apples. Vegetables, such as cucumbers, squash, pumpkins, peas, peppers and tomatoes. Galsshouse and nursery plants, such as flowers (rose, etc.), potted plants and proteccted vegetables.

Biological Activity: Mode of action: Chistosan is an elictor that stimulates the natural defence response system in treated plants. Poly-D-glucosamine, the active ingredient in Chitosan, binds to fungal receptor sites, mimicking an attack fb fungal spores. This, in return, results in signals being sent to the nuclei of the plant cells. These signals elicit multiple genetic and biological respnses, incliding the production of phytoalexins (antimicrobial compounds pfoduced in plants), aimed at inhibitin fungal infections.

Application: Depending on desease pressure and canopy size, Citosan can be applied at varying rates.

Repead every 7 to 14 days during growing season.
